| John Sturdivant was born sometime around 1630 in England. The earliest record of John in the New World is in 1652 in which he was granted land in what is now Chesterfield County, VA. He was married to Sarah Hallom, daughter of Robert Hallom, by 1660, around which time they were living in Charles City County. John and Sarah had 5 children, all boys, between 1662 and 1672. By 1663 John had land on Citty Creek which was in the northwest corner of present day Prince George County. In 1673 he recieved a patent of land on Second Branch in west central Prince George County. John was an Indian trader in the employ of William Byrd I. John and William Byrd I were both supporters of Nathaniel Bacon and were involved in Bacons Rebellion, a predecessor to the American Revolution. On April 29th 1684, William Byrd I wrote back to England that Old Sturdivant, his son, and four others had all been killed by Indians while returning from a successful trading expedition. | ||||
